自攻螺钉，头型非常多，一般沉头和盘头较为常用，表面处理一般为镀锌白色的，尖头处有像钻头一般的钻，实际应用中较多人将其应用在木头上，但其主要的用途是应用于薄的金属板上面，如薄铁皮和薄铁板之间的连接等。沉头自攻螺钉螺纹呈搭线螺旋上升，但螺纹较纤维板钉更小，螺纹表面具有较高的硬度。因此可在薄的金属板连接中，在被连接件的螺纹底孔中攻出内螺纹，从而形成连接。
