苏艺天工大师系列——邢伟中檀香扇艺术展

序言

檀香扇是从折扇发展演变而来，因扇骨、扇面皆用檀香木而得名。以檀香木作扇骨早有流传，清人《在园杂志》记载“其扇骨有用象牙者，玳瑁者，檀香者，沉香者……”，可见明清时就有以印度檀香木制成扇骨的，但皆没有形成气候。而今人熟知的精雕细镂的檀香扇，则发源于民国时期的苏州。

上世纪二三十年代的苏州张多记扇庄以檀香木为原料创作出香气馥郁，玲珑精致的檀香扇,在不足百年的发展过程中，苏州檀香扇成为中国扇艺史中一颗精巧夺目的明珠。

制作一把檀香扇要历经十几道繁琐工序，而做成一把精品檀香扇更是需要花费数月的苦心与坚持。其中特色的拉花工艺集锯、刻、绘一体，极人工之巧的技法之下创造出一幅幅灵秀动人的画面。

苏州檀香扇发展的历史是一部运用多种工艺，并使之完美统一的手工艺史，每一把玲珑精致的扇面皆精益求精，是诗情画意与材美工巧的融合统一。生于吴地的邢伟中是今日苏州檀香扇的解读者。自青年时期进入苏州檀香扇厂，倏忽间近五十载光阴掠过，他依旧独坐灯前，以艺者不懈的耐心与巧智摩刻檀香扇的绝代风华。檀香扇造就了艺者邢伟中，邢伟中也传扬了苏州檀香扇。

Preface

The sandalwood fan, which originated from the folding fan, obtained its name as both the fan ribs and the fan leaves were made of sandalwood. It had been a long history that the sandalwood was applied to make fan ribs. As is recorded by a Qing dynasty scholar, some of the fan ribs are made of ivory, some tortoise-shell, some sandalwood and some eaglewood... It indicates that people had already used Indian sandalwood to make fan ribs as early as Ming and Qing dynasty, but unfortunately it didn’t become the mainstream. The exquisite sandalwood fan familiar to people nowadays was derived from Suzhou during the Republic of China.

The Zhang-Duo-Ji Fan Store of Suzhou in the 1920s and 1930s produced the sandalwood fan of strong fragrance and delicacy with sandalwood as its raw material. In less than a century, the Suzhou sandalwood fan had become one of the finest and brightest pearl in the history of Chinese fan.

Making a sandalwood fan involves tens of sophisticated procedures, while making an exquisite sandalwood even requires several months of efforts and perseverance. One of the special technique, la hua, combines sawing, carving and drawing together to create refined art works with superb skills.

The development of Suzhou sandalwood fan is also a history of the development of handicrafts, which records various crafts and makes perfect combination among them. The artist strives to keep improving every fan and integrates poetic connotation with high-quality material and technique. Xing Weizhong, who was born in Suzhou, is an interpreter of contemporary Suzhou sandalwood fan. Nearly five decades have passed without ever noticing it since he joined the Suzhou Sandalwood Fan Manufacturing in his youth. He still sticks himself to the grace and beauty of the sandalwood fan with extreme patience and wisdom. The sandalwood fan makes Xing Weizhong an artist, while Xing Weizhong also manages to spread the Suzhou sandalwood fan.
