Childhood, what a colorful word. At six or seven years old, children who lived at the foot of a hill would spend the whole afternoon in a summer field with young grass nearby. As is often the case, the sun had set and they still didn't intend to go home.Now, decades later, when people recall this kind of life, they still feel the sweetness as enjoying the honey.

童年，多么色彩斑斓的一个词。六七岁的光景，夏天的野外，手边一捧嫩草，就是生活在山脚的垂髫孩童的一整个下午。经常太阳落山了，他们却仍不知返途。这样的生活，即使在几十年后的今天忆起，依旧如抹了蜜的油茶肥叶，除了甜还是甜。

When talking about his childhood, Mr Xiaoshan, who takes delight in discovering the beauty of plants around him, is happy as if he has eaten the sweet camellia oleifera leaf. At that time, growing up in the countryside, he could not eat, drink and play without plants. He knows what kind of setaria viridis is the toughest and what kind of Chinese holly is the best for peg-top. He knows which mountain's wine berry is the most delicious and which tree's Akebia trifoliata is the most fragrant and soft. He even remembers which neighbor's roast sweet potato was the most sweet and waxy.This kind of life accompanied by flowers and plants from childhood makes him feel that the love of plants is the innate nature of human beings. “We are the most authentic ourselves when we are with plants.” Therefore, he likes to be close to nature, to observe flowers and plants, and to pursue them from books.

聊起自己的童年生活时，乐在发现身边植物之美的小山老师便像是吃了那鲜甜的油茶叶，满心满眼，全是微笑。那时候，长在农村的他吃喝玩乐都离不开植物。他知道什么样的狗尾巴草最坚韧、什么品类的枸骨做陀螺最适合，他了解哪座山头的悬钩子最好吃、哪棵藤上的八月炸最香软，他甚至还记得哪户邻居田里的番薯烤起来最甜糯。这种从小倾听花叶低吟的生活，让他至今都觉得喜爱植物是人与生俱来的天性，与植物在一起的我们，是最真实的自己。因此，他喜欢亲近自然，去观察花草，也渴望从书本中追寻它们的身影。

At that time, his father's Chinese Herbal Medicine Handbook of Jiangxi was placed on the desk of his family all year round. It was printed in color and had hand-painted pictures. This was one of the few books he knew but was particularly fond of. The book detailed the various plants that he could see when he walked out of the house. This familiarity left every detail of these plants engraved in his young mind, and he also laid the foundation for a variety of plant philosophies.

那时候，家里的案头常年放着父亲的《江西中草药手册》，彩版的印刷，手绘的图片，是他能接触到的为数不多却又爱不释手的一本书。书里详细介绍了各种他走出家门便能见到的亲切植物，这种熟悉感，让这些植物的每个细节都刻在了他幼小的脑海里，也为他打下了饱览各类植物志而不觉乏的童子功。

Although at that time Mr Xiaoshan had a wonderful feeling for the flowers and plants around him, what really made him decide to write something was 10 years ago when he was enlightened by Li Yu's Sketches of Idle Pleasure and Wang Zengqi's Vegetation on Earth. He learned that plants could also be so close to his life, distant history and profound culture. Since then, he has been hungry for the traces of plants in the records left by the ancients. Seeing someone off with an osier was popular in Han Dynasty (B.C. 202-A.D. 220), for the osier shares the same pronunciation with asking sb. to stay in Chinese as liu. The phoenix perches only on the plane tree in Wei Shu, and reed refers to the beautiful woman in the Classic of Poetry. All this made him feel that the plants around him were the faithful messengers of the sages. As time went by, they passed on their emotions to him and presented him with their thousands of years of trust.

虽然那时候他就对身边的花草有了一种美好的情愫，不过真正让小山老师决定提笔写点什么是在十年前，当他从李渔的《闲情偶寄》和汪曾祺的《人间草木》中顿悟的时候，原来植物也能与自己的生活、与遥远的历史、与蕴奥的文化如此亲昵。自此，他如饥似渴地在古人留下的点点墨迹中寻找植物的踪迹。流行于汉代的典故折柳送别、出自《魏书》的“凤凰非梧桐不栖”、《诗经》中喻指伊人的蒹葭……这一切都让他觉得，身边繁衍不息的植物，就是先贤忠诚的信使，穿过层层倾泻的时光，把他们的情感传递与他，把流淌了千百年的寄托馈赠与他。

Therefore, he spread out the paper and recorded the beauty of the plants around him and their vivid cultural ties. At first, it was interest that led him to start recording bits and pieces on his official account. Now there are more and more visitors and friends who love flowers and plants. He also has more stringent requirements for his own text.“I write every article. Every word and sentence comes from a source. I don't dare to write anything that has no evidence,” he said. In order to make his articles both readable and scientific, he formed a WeChat group called Nianhuarecao Buluo (Tribe of flowers and plants). In this group are many friends who like grass and trees everywhere and big names who study plants. The like-minded flower friends in the group talk about their discoveries and new insights about flowers and plants, for which he always feels fruitful.

于是，他展纸，记下了身边的草木之美和它们灵动的文化牵绊。起初，是兴趣使然，他开始在自己的公众号上记录点滴。当看客与花友越来越多，他对自己的文字也有了更加严苛的要求，“我写每一篇文章，一字一句都是有来历的，没有考据的东西我是不敢写的。”他说。为了让自己的文章兼具可读性与科学性，他组建了“拈花惹草部落”。这个社群里有各地喜欢草木的花友，也不乏研究植物的大拿。一群兴趣相投的花友们在群里谈论他们关于花草的发现和新感悟，让他总感觉收获颇丰。

While Mr Xiaoshan and these friends are not only satisfied with the papers in the virtual world, they often take up the camera and take food and water to stay in the mountains for a day. Unlike hikers who are pursuing mileage, their pace is not fast. Sometimes, for a road of only one kilometer, they have to walk for an hour or two, not for anything else, just to record the most realistic and moving scene of wildflowers in the mountains.For him, such a hobby is very casual and interesting without much cost, and could always offer a comfortable and free life and the freedom of the world.

而小山老师与花友们也不只满足于虚拟世界的纸上谈兵，他们经常背起相机，带上干粮带上水，在山里一泡就是一整天。不同于追求里程数的徒步爱好者，他们的步伐并不快。有时候，一段仅一公里的路，他们要走上一两个小时，不为别的，只为记录山里的野花最真实、最动人的一幕。对他来说，这样的爱好很随性、很有趣，甚至不需要花费很多，却能让他品出一番出生活的惬意洒脱和天地的纵横奔放。

Dealing with flowers and plants is an enjoyment for Mr Xiaoshan. He hopes that one day, with a group of children who are also willing to get close to nature, he can stand under a millennial Chinese parasol tree and tell them the story of the old tree.

于他而言，同花草打交道，是一种富足的享受。他希望有一天，能够带着一群同样愿意亲近自然的孩子，站在一棵千年梧桐下，为他们娓娓铺陈身后那棵古树荡气回肠的前尘往事。
