在广袤的沙漠中，时间如细沙般悄然流逝，让人感悟到生命的脆弱与珍贵。沙漠作为地球上最极端的生态系统之一，代表了极端且严酷的环境，似乎与生命无缘。但实际上，沙漠才是展示生命的潜能之所。而曼陀罗花被视为通往内在精神世界的大门，象征着生命的顽强与觉醒，通过冥想曼陀罗可以探索生命的意义和感受宇宙的平衡与和谐。‌佛教里有关微观宇宙的模型就叫“曼陀罗”，即佛家所谓“一花一世界，一叶一如来”。它包含着洞察幽明，超然觉悟，幻化无穷的精神。

In the vast desert, time passes quietly like fine sand, reminding people of the fragility and preciousness of life. As one of the most extreme ecosystems on Earth, desert represents an extreme and harsh environment, seemingly devoid of life. But in fact, the desert is exactly the place where the potential of life is demonstrated. The mandala flower, seen as a gateway to the inner spiritual world, symbolizes the tenacity and awakening of life. By meditating on the flower, we can explore the meaning of life and feel the balance and harmony of the universe. The Buddhist model of the microcosmos, known as the “mandala”, means “a world in a wild flower, and a Bodhi in a leaf.” It contains the insight into the world, transcendental consciousness, and infinite transformation.

作为被誉为“中国沙漠旅游第一品牌” 和“沙漠迪士尼”的沙漠传奇项目里的景区核心的制高点和文化标志物，我们希望通过塑造一个有生命力的建筑，来探讨人与自然和谐共生的智慧。我们将它命名为“沙漠之花”。

This architecture is a dominating feature and cultural landmark at the core of the scenic area in the desert legend project, which is hailed as “the first brand of China’s desert tourism” and “Disneyland in the desert”. By creating such a vital building, we hope to explore the wisdom of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. We name it Desert Flower.

作为沙坡头景区的标志物，沙漠之花仿佛一座挺拔的灯塔与圣殿，矗立在广袤的沙海之中，成为探索者的标志物，为人们指引方向。考虑到沙尘暴的风险，我们选择倒放的花型来呈现一个高耸的造型。随着高度的增加风速也会增大，建筑形体也顺应自然规律选择了下大上小的形体。

As a symbol of the Shapotou scenic area, the Desert Flower looks like a tall lighthouse and a sacred temple, standing in the vast sea of sand, to become a landmark of explorers and chart the course forward. Taking into account the risk of dust storms, we choose the pattern of an inverted flower to present a towering shape. As the wind gets up with the increase of height, the building conforms to the law of nature to have a large bottom and small top in shape.

为了免除建构之外的装饰，我们仅用钢结构外覆膜材来完成建造。因此我们一直力图在结构合理性和造型曲线的优美之间找到平衡点，在尝试了很多种结构桁架的布置方式之后，选择了最能体现一朵花的生长经络的方案。我们希望能更直接的展现出结构之美，让建构成为形式本身。最终呈现的状态，既是力学传递状态的体现，又与沙丘柔和起伏的曲线相呼应，同时也完成了一次对沙漠元素和特征的提取与重构。

To dispense with unnecessary decorations outside the construction, we build the Desert Flower only with the steel structure clad with membrane materials. Therefore, we’ve managed to find a balance between the rationality of the structure and the beauty of the modeling curve. After trying a variety of structural trusses, we choose the scheme that best reflects the growth meridian of a flower. We hope to show the beauty of the structure more directly, so that the construction becomes the form itself. In the end, it embodies a mechanical transfer state, and echoes the gentle undulating curve of the dune, completing an extraction and reconstruction of desert elements and characteristics.

为了避免过于纪念性，体现出灵动的自然生命之美，建筑以曼陀罗花绽放的瞬间抽象出非对称的形式语言——每片“花瓣”朝向顺时针依次向下张开，仿佛从天空飘落沙海时螺旋飞舞的动态。为了营造出轻盈和漂浮的感觉，整个建筑采用通体钢结构管桁架建构造型，并仅通过五个点状的支座连接到地面。在花瓣的下面是一个随着花形起伏的半室外灰空间，为人们提供了一个沙漠中的精神庇护所。

To avoid being too monumental and to embody the beauty of the dynamic natural life, the architecture draws on the asymmetrical formal language in the moment the mandala flower blooms — each “petal” bursts forth clockwise and downward, like a spiral dance as it falls from the sky to the sand sea. To create a sense of lightness and floating, it is constructed with steel structure tube trusses, and connected to the ground only with five point-like supports. Beneath the petals is a semi-outdoor gray space that fluctuates with the shape of the flower, providing a spiritual refuge in the desert.

在沙漠中建造，尤其需要考虑施工的便利性和材料的耐候性，我们采用了两种膜材来组合出花的形态。主体采用了30%透光率白色的PVF膜材，模拟花瓣轮廓的凹槽部分采用了透明ETFE膜材。通过两种不同透光率的材质来勾勒出花的优美线条。不仅在外部立面上增添了灵动之感，从建筑内部向上看，阳光透过明亮的光带洒下来，仿佛曼陀罗的花蕊一般，充满诗意。而建构整座曼陀罗花的钢管桁架也因螺旋向上的纵深感和韵律感，呈现出如藻井一般绚烂的姿态。

Building such facilities in the desert, we need to consider the convenience of construction and the weatherability of the materials. We build up the shape of flower with two membrane materials. The main body is made of white PVF membrane with 30% light transmittance, and the fluted part simulating the outline of the petals adopts transparent ETFE membrane. The two materials with different light transmittance are used to sketch the charming lines of the flower. In this way, it adds a sense of agility to the exterior facade. Meanwhile, looking up from the inside of the building, we see the sun shines through a bright band of light, like the stamen of a mandala flower, full of poetic elegance. The steel pipe truss that constructs the whole mandala flower also presents a gorgeous posture like a sunk panel, because of the depth and rhythm of the upward spirals.

自2023年6月沙漠传奇开业以来，沙漠之花就成为景区的一张名片，吸引着全国各地的游客。沙漠之花，为人们提供了一个梦幻般的庇护所，如同大地的轻语，璀璨而孤独。此处，心灵得以卸下沉重的行囊，时间在此刻停滞，让我们在静坐冥想或漫无目的发呆中，感受生命的无限可能。沙漠之花不仅仅是一座建筑，更是一种生命力的象征，让我们去思考生命的短暂与永恒，更珍惜当下的每一个瞬间。

Since the desert legend project was launched in June 2023, the Desert Flower has become a shining feature of the scenic area, attracting tourists from all over the country. It provides them with a fantastic shelter, like the whisper of the Earth, bright and lonely. Here, visitors can unload heavy burdens from their mind, and time stands still, allowing us to feel the infinite possibilities of life in meditation or aimless daze. The Desert Flower is not only a building, but also a symbol of vitality, making us think about the transience and eternity of life, and cherish every moment of the present.
